SimplKomb is New & Improved for 2025!
Since our initial product launch in April 2023, we have seen so many great customer successes and received feedback from bee yards across the country. This past summer, we set out to address the feedback we received and make an effort to improve the SimplKomb experience for every user. We are so excited to say that we have re-designed the SimplKomb you all loved the last two seasons, to bring you SimplKomb 2.0 for Spring 2025.
Here's what's new...
Now Compatible with More Medium Frame Brands.
When we launched SimplKomb, we were unaware of just how variable woodenware was between brands and manufacturers. This apparent variability lead us to conduct extensive testing of medium Langstroth frames across the industry to see exactly where that issue stemmed from. After discovering several frame brands altered the thickness of their bottom bars, we decided to retail frames directly on our website to ensure our customers had access to frames that we could trust. Frustrating, right? It's meant to be simpl...and this didnt meet our standard.
With SimplKomb 2.0, we knew this was top priority. We have reduced the package height just enough to allow the cassettes to fit frames that have smaller inner-window dimensions. This means more keepers can use our cassettes without buying a new frame pack. Woohoo!
Of course, that woodenware variation still exists. We encourage you to measure your frames inner window, then follow our updated instructions for use carefully to ensure your SimplKomb cassettes are snug and secure.
Improved Snap Function for a Simpl Setup.
When folding the SimplKomb lids back during preparation, we faced experiences where the lid snaps were not as secure as we needed them to be. This was due to variation in manufacturing and often caused the cassette to unsnap at one end, or completely pop open.
We have modified our mold by moving the snap location from the corners to now exist as a simpler barrel snap at the top and the bottom of each cup. This feature is larger, easier to replicate in high volume manufacturing, and eliminates the "oil canning" behavior of the previous snap design, which caused a bulge in the center of the cup. Secure snaps means a simpler setup.
Adapted Hex Pattern Improves Bee Acceptance.
Our previous hexagonal pattern molded into the cassette cups was modeled without consideration for how rotational orientation may impact the bees natural instincts, and thus their adoption of SimplKomb. A few beekeepers with decades of experience noticed and pointed out that rotating the hexes 90 degrees creates a vertex at the top of the cup, which is more likely to trigger comb building as it resembles the natural build pattern. We're all for making it as simpl as we can for your bees, too.
Made with Eco-Friendly, Recycled Material.
We come from farm country, conservation is at our core. We chose to use material composed of roughly 25% recycled bottles to do our part to protect our environment. Because SimplKomb is made from PETE, it is post-consumer recyclable, as well - bearing the "1" inside the recycle triangle symbol. We encourage you to recycle SimplKomb cassettes the same way you would recycle plastic water bottles. Please ask your customers to do the same!
